Travelling on your own as a woman can feel unsettling and liberating at the same time. As we get older, it becomes more difficult to find friends that can book off the same vacation days as us. That is when you should make the most of yours and finally book that trip you have always dreamt of - even if you have to go on your own. Do not spend another vacation day on a staycation. Consider these places for your solo trip.

Australia

It is one of the furthest places you can travel to, but it is also one of the easiest cultures to adapt to. The land down under has a relaxed vibe with beaches everywhere, plenty of opportunities to shop, and delicious food and wine. 

Costa Rica

This place is perfect for women who want an adventurous and action-packed vacation. There is an endless number of activities to keep you busy in Costa Rica - from white water rafting to hang gliding. Or, you could also simply soak up the sun and relax in its crystal clear waters. Costa Ricans are exceptionally warm and friendly, so you can feel assured that you are safe while vacationing there. 

Iceland 

Reykjavik, the nation's capital, is ranked as one of the safest places in the world for women to travel to. The land is a place like no other on Earth. Become mesmerized by the Golden Circle and explore the Blue Lagoon. Make sure to bring your raincoat though, Iceland receives a lot of days of precipitation and has a relatively mild climate. The weather will just make your time in its famous hot springs that much cozier. 

India

While this country is often depicted as crowded and chaotic, it has areas that are still ideal for solo female travellers. The state of Rajasthan is perfect for people who want to take in India's rich culture safely. The area is filled with magnificent palaces, delicious cuisine, and beautiful handcrafted pieces. It is also an incredibly affordable place to explore for budget-conscious travellers. 

Ireland

Also known as the Emerald Isle, it got this name from its lush green landscapes. The island is so green because of the amount of rain it receives, but temperatures are mild. You will not mind getting a bit wet once you experience Ireland's crisp, windswept coasts and warm locals. It also has quaint accommodation and an assortment of experiences to take in like learning how to pour a Guinness the right way. Ireland is ranked high for safety on the Global Peace Index making it an obvious choice for solo female travellers. 

Italy

This is the place to go to indulge all of your senses. Italy is filled with stylish fashion, opulent art, delectable food and wine, stunning landscapes, and prominent architecture. There are a lot of exciting things to do in particular for solo female travellers in Rome. 

Japan

You will find boisterous, colourful cities and calm, serene landscapes in this southeast Asian country. Unlike other cities, Tokyo is perfect for getting lost since you do not have to worry about your safety. Kyoto is a popular travel spot because the number of UNESCO sites it has. Japan has a unique and distinct culture that everyone should experience at least once in their life. 

Netherlands

This friendly destination is known for its tulip fields, windmills, and cycling routes. It is one of the safest places in Europe and has plenty of opportunities for relaxation. The Netherlands also has a vibrant art and history scene that is worth taking in. 

New Zealand

If you are an outdoorsy person but prefer warm weather, this beachy island is perfect for you. There is an assortment of sports and activities you can do here like skydiving, trekking, and white-water rafting. If you prefer your vacations to be more laid back, New Zealand also has peaceful cruises, stunning lakes to relax by, and some of the world's most renowned wineries. 

Thailand

The land of smiles. Everywhere you go here you will encounter friendly locals with open arms ready to welcome you. There is something for every type of traveller in Thailand. If you prefer to move at a slower pace, Chiang Mai is peaceful and picturesque. You can visit an elephant sanctuary there or take a class in one of its several cooking schools. The nation's capital, Bangkok, is ideal for people who like the bustle of a city and want to participate in more exciting events like watching a Thai boxing match. Or, if you want to let loose, travel further south to Phuket for fun beach parties.
